Hence, in this blog, I will be mentoring you in sketching and cutting with your Silhouette Cameo 3. Also, new to crafting users are usually excited about experimenting with different things with their machines. Maybe most of them were not even aware that this machine is actually a lot more than it seems. So here we go.

What Does It Mean By Sketching?

You can relate Silhouette sketching with the normal sketching we did in our schools. We used paper and sketch pens to draw. Likewise, we will be using sketch pens, markers, pencils, or any other writing element with our machine instead of regular blades. We make sketching on a thin flat surface and use different materials compatible with the Silhouette Cameo machine.

How To Choose Or Create A Sketch Design?

You can use any regular cut file or an SVG design with your Silhouette Cameo machine. The machine will draw around the outside of the design, just like cutting a design out of paper, vinyl, or any other material. Hence, your sketch design will look like empty outlines. Fortunately, there are many fonts and files that you can use to sketch your design. These designs are composed of single lines rather than open shapes, such as traditional cut files or SVGs.

Moreover, you can find ready-made designs online along with designing your own sketch designs. For instance, the Silhouette Design Store is an ideal place to find tons of sketch fonts and designs. You can search for any font or design by putting its name in the search box. Plus, you can apply a filter to find a design or font that will go with your project. So Fontsy is another great place to find the best-cut single-line fonts and SVGs.

What Will You Need For Sketching?

To sketch and cut with Silhouette Cameo 3, we will use SVG designs that work best to create signs, tote bags, stickers, or anything you want. Here is a small list of the things you will need during sketching.

  4. Eucalyptus branches or other greenery

Open up your design in the Silhouette software. If you are taking designs from my designs, you have to ungroup the elements to select the part you want to use. Then, use the circle tool to draw a circle around the design and, likewise, two small circles on each side of the design.

How To Sketch And Cut With The Silhouette Cameo 3?

One good feature of Silhouette Cameo 3 is that it has two holders that allow you to perform two tasks simultaneously. It means you can sketch and cut at the same time to create something beautiful with labels, tags, and many more. Then, once you have your design, load the Silhouette sketch pen into the adapter in the machine.

Or else you can use a pen holder to put your sketch pen into it. And then, put it into the pen holder in the machine and fix it until it clicks in place. After that, you can adjust the settings to change the color of your design. For cutting, we are using a ratchet blade which you can set from the top right settings option.

Once your tags are sketched and cut, you need to follow a few more steps to finish your task. Thread a length of jute twine via the holes in the bag so the twine reaches the back of the tag. After that, lay the tag on top of your napkin and a eucalyptus branch. Now, tie the jute twine on the back of the napkin.

And that’s all. You have created a fun piece for decoration. I hope you liked it and you want to make more such pieces with the Silhouette Cameo 3.
